The suburban neighborhood of Clairemont is one of northern San Diego’s fines communities and includes the subneighborhoods of North Clairemont, Clairemont Mesa East, and Clairemont Mesa West. First developed in the 1950s as a part of the post-World War II building boom, Clairemont has become San Diego’s largest post-war subdivision and was a revolutionary design at its conception. Instead of the traditional grid system of uniform blocks and streets, Clairemont includes winding streets and scenic view lots that overlook Mission Bay from the area’s canyons and bluffs.

Sandwiched in the midst of several major thoroughfares, residents of Clairemont have easy access to the rest of San Diego and Southern California. Route 52 forms the northern border while Route 274 is the southern boundary. The I-5 interstate runs to the west as I-805 runs in the north-south direction in the east. Mission Bay is just a few minutes’ drive southeast from the heart of Clairemont and is perhaps the biggest local attraction. Mission Bay is a beautiful spectacle in itself and is the geographical and ecological driver of the area. The salt-water bay and lagoon includes Mission Bay Park, the largest man-made aquatic park in the country. On most weekends, it’s not uncommon to see water sport enthusiasts take part in wakeboarding, jet skiing, sailing, and camping.

Clairemont Town Square, Balboa Mesa Shopping Center, and Genesee Plaza are the community’s three largest local shopping plazas. Most residents find that most of their immediate needs can be met without having to travel into the city although the commute only takes a few minutes on the interstate. A number of excellent recreational opportunities can be found in Clairemont. Not only can residents use the parks for camping, picnics, parties, jogging, running, and weekend getaways but they can also sign-up their children for youth leagues and other planned sports. Marian Bear Memorial Park, North Clairemont Park, Clairemont Community Park, Mount Acadia Park, Mount Etna Park, East Clairemont Athletic Ara, Olive Grove Park, Lindbergh Park, and Tecolote Canyon Natural Park are the largest venues in Clairemont and the surrounding community.
