Sabre Springs is a community northeast of the city of San Diego and located just outside of Poway in the North County Inland region of Southern California. Known for its prominent business park that features several notable businesses, Sabre Springs has become a center for both commercial and residential life. Carmel Mountain Ranch is just north of Sabre Springs and is commonly known by the acronym “CMR.” Like its southerly neighbor, Carmel Mountain Ranch also features an extensive business park that includes businesses such as Carvin and Beyond Bikes. The community is also known for its large shopping center, Carmel Plaza that features dozens of retailers. Although Carmel Mountain Ranch is smaller than the city of Poway, most residents of Poway choose to shop at the Carmel Plaza.
Every year, the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce hosts a Fall Festival that is based in Carmel Mountain Ranch and features booths from local businesses, community organizations, schools, and other groups. The area’s golf courses are actually shared with the neighboring communities. Carmel Highland Golf and Tennis and Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club are two of the more popular ones.
Sabre Spings Park features two playgrounds and two little league baseball diamonds. The Carmel Mountain Ranch Park is home to a spending recreation center filled with basketball courts and exercise facilities as well as two baseball fields and a children’s play area. Besides these two main parks, residents of Sabre Springs and Carmel Mountain Ranch are welcome to use Poway’s variety of parks, including Starridge Park, Arbolitos Sport Fields, Adobe Ridge Mini Park, Highland Ranch Park, Silverset Park, Old Powat Park, Hilleary Park, and Garden Park.
Carmel Mountain Ranch and Sabre Springs are served by the Poway Unified School District. While students in seventh grade and older are required to travel to Poway for the purpose of attending middle and high school, the district does operate three elementary schools locally for residents’ convenience. The preferred high school s Rancho Bernardo High School while students are fed into either Meadowbrook Middle School in Poway or Black Mountain Middle School in Penasquitos.
