North County Coastal Real Estate Information

North San Diego County is known locally as “North County” and includes the northern suburbs and sometimes a selection of northern neighborhoods of the city of San Diego. The general boundaries for the area are the I-5 and State Route 78, inclusive of the cities located on those thoroughfares. The area is considered to be more socially conservative than the other portions of the county and has typically been known to be the most expensive region of San Diego County. Known as the ideal family destination, North County is a popular tourist attraction, notoriously for the number of fun amusement parks that call the northern area home. San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park, Legoland California, the Birch Aquarium, and the Wave Waterpark are some of the region’s biggest attractions, scattered throughout the North County area.

The coastal portion of North County includes the communities of Del Mar, Carmel Valley, Olivenbain, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Cardiff-by-the Sea, Encinitas, Leucadia, La Costa, San Elijo Hills, Carlsbad, and Oceanside.

The coastal portion of North County is much more populated, compared to North County Inland. This is because of the beautiful shores that grace the county’s western shores, facing the Pacific Ocean. The I-5 interstate than runs along the shoreline and connects the towns of the coastal portion of North County to downtown San Diego and the rest of California also makes it more convenient to live in the coastal region.

North County Coastal, as its name implies, is especially known for its beaches. Most towns and communities in the area have at least one popular beach or shoreline park that makes the area quite popular with residents and visitors alike. Beacon’s Beach, Cardiff State Beach, Del Mar Beach, Fletcher Cove, La Jolla Shores, San Elijo State Beach, Swami’s Beach, and Torrey Pines State Beach are some of the area’s well-known beaches and are usually quite busy on the weekends but surprisingly open during most weekdays. On some holidays, the entire North County Coastal area is inundated with San Diego residents in search and rest and relaxation at the beach. In fact, many of North County Coastal’s beaches are known to be popular with surfers because of the excellent surf, especially in the winter months.
