East County is comprised of most eastern San Diego county suburbs, although most suburban communities to the city of San Diego lie in the area’s western side. Several special events fill the calendars of East County residents and visitors alike. The variety of festivals and events that happen throughout the year are both fun and affordable. La Mesa Oktoberfest is one of the most highly anticipated events for its excellent food and cultural entertainment. The Cajon Classic Cruise and LMV Back to the 50’s Car Show are two more popular events. Concerts on the Green in El Cajon are usually well attended because of the quality artists that perform and the beautiful venue it takes place at. La Mesa Flag Day is another enjoyable event as is Lemon Grove Days and the Mother Goode Parade. Wings Over Gillespie, an air show and aeronautic celebration is visible from miles around and showcases some of the greatest nature-defying machines ever invented. Olaf Wieghorst Western Heritage Days and Sage & Songbirds rounds out the spectacular range of events that makes living in East County so special.
