Kensington Real Estate Information

The San Diego neighborhood of Kensington is situated in the Mid-City region of San Diego as part of the San Diego Central area of the county. Bordered by the I-15 interstate to the west, I-8 interstate to the north, Fairmont Avenue to the east, and El Cajon Boulevard to the south, Kensington is one of the area’s premier neighborhoods. Not only is Kensington conveniently located just a few minutes from the business district of San Diego via the close by interstate but a number of attractions and important places are either in Kensington or neighboring the neighborhood.

Qualcomm Stadium is located just across the I-8 from Kensington and typically adds significant traffic and fanfare to the Kensington area on game days. As a multi-purpose facility that is the current home of the San Diego Chargers and the San Diego Statue University Aztecs football team, Qualcomm Stadium is primarily configured for football although it can be rearranged to accommodate soccer and baseball. A number of super bowls, college bowls, and other special events have been hosted.

The general airport Montgomery Field can be found a few miles north of Kensington, alongside the I-15. Approximately 600 aircraft are home based at the airport and make use of the 3,400-foot lighted runway. A host of aviation support facilities make it one of the most attractive urban city airports in the nation.

National University is actually part of the northern side of Kensington. Three minutes east of Kensington is the San Diego State University, the largest and oldest higher education facility in the greater San Diego area. As the third oldest university in the California State University system and one of the oldest campuses in the state, SDSU welcomes 34,000 students to campus and has an alumni base in excess of 200,000 graduates.

Westfield Shoppingtown Mission Valley is the closest major shopping complex. However, most residents of Kensington have no problem making the short drive to several larger malls that are in downtown San Diego. The drive to the San Diego waterfront in downtown San Diego, across from Balboa Park and the San Diego Zoo is about ten minutes on the I-15 and I-805.
